How this estimate is built

The calculator multiplies monthly long-form views by a niche RPM and an audience-geography factor, then divides by 1,000. Shorts views get a separate, much lower RPM. If you type your own Studio RPM, the geography factor is skipped because that number already reflects your audience.

Long-form revenue = (monthly long-form views / 1,000) × RPM. Shorts revenue = (monthly Shorts views / 1,000) × Shorts RPM.

YouTube's published split on Watch Page ads is 55% to the creator. The RPM table already represents take-home, not advertiser spend. Do not apply the 55% again on top of Studio RPM.

Why two channels with the same views earn differently

Advertisers bid based on audience purchasing power. A video reaching US homeowners shopping for insurance commands higher rates than a video reaching a global teen gaming audience. Production quality has far less influence on the auction than viewer demographics.

  • Niche sets the starting RPM from creator-reported ranges.
  • Geography scales that RPM. US, UK, Canada, and Australia pay more than most other markets.
  • Format matters. Long-form can run mid-rolls. Shorts cannot.
  • Q4 often lifts RPM and January often drops it. This calculator does not adjust for season.

How to replace the estimate with your real number

In YouTube Studio, open Analytics, then Revenue. Use RPM for the last 28 days, not estimated revenue divided by lifetime views. Lifetime mixes old CPMs, demonetized videos, and Shorts. Paste that RPM into the custom field here.

If your Studio RPM looks too low, check the Shorts share of views and the country table before assuming the ads are broken.

Questions

What is YouTube RPM?

RPM is revenue per 1,000 views after YouTube's cut. It is the useful creator number. CPM is what advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions, which is not the same as views and is not what you keep.

What is a good YouTube RPM?

It depends on niche and geography. Finance and business channels often land between $8 and $30. Gaming and entertainment often land between $1 and $5. A US-heavy audience sits toward the top of a niche range.

How much does YouTube pay per 1,000 views?

There is no official rate. After the 55% Watch Page split, creator-reported long-form RPM commonly spans about $1 to $30. Shorts are usually cents, not dollars.

Do Shorts pay the same as long-form?

No. Shorts ads go into a Creator Pool. You keep 45% of your allocated share. In practice that is often $0.03 to $0.15 RPM. A million Shorts views is not a million long-form views.

Does this include brand deals?

No. This is ad revenue only. Sponsorships, affiliates, memberships, Super Chat, and Shopping are separate lines of income.
